A design manifesto that reads like a graphic novel, or illustrated meditation, and (thankfully) it is itself a well designed book. Something that would not work on a Kindle. The author Ge Wang is the inventor/creator/programmer of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLORK). His thesis: What we make, makes us. And the book is an extended exam of how humans must create, music, art, programs, machines, --it'southward a congenital in impulse, and the purpose of each creation is almost secondary to the process A design manifesto that reads like a graphic novel, or illustrated meditation, and (thankfully) it is itself a well designed book. Something that would non work on a Kindle. The author Ge Wang is the inventor/creator/programmer of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLORK). His thesis: What we make, makes us. And the volume is an extended examination of how humans must create, music, art, programs, machines, --information technology's a congenital in impulse, and the purpose of each cosmos is almost secondary to the process of blueprint. Good blueprint is all about adjustment aesthetic factors,....he quotes Aristotle's ideals and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. And I think some of his ideas were anticipated past Ovid, whom he does not quote or seem to know, but has rediscovered the aforementioned railroad train of thought... ...more
note - I simply read chapter 1, 2 and viii. These 3 chapters I would recommend to absolutely anyone who is interested in the philosophy of design, and I personally remember is a perspective that should be considered by artists and creators of all stripes. The full general thought is that design should understand pragmatic and aesthetic aspects and aspire to be a synthesis that deeply understands humanity. It's only such a life-affirming volume. note - I merely read chapter 1, 2 and 8. These iii capacity I would recommend to absolutely anyone who is interested in the philosophy of design, and I personally think is a perspective that should be considered past artists and creators of all stripes. The full general idea is that design should understand businesslike and artful aspects and aspire to be a synthesis that deeply understands humanity. I've been on a bit of a graphic novel kick recently, partly because I'yard interested in how the simplicity of imagery and words tin can be used to showcase complex ideas (think Economix by Michael Goodwin). Ge Wang'south manifesto is an exploration that is playful and grounded in philosophy of blueprint. You might get more do good out of seeing one of Ge'south lectures online instead of reading this book. I've been on a chip of a graphic novel kick recently, partly because I'm interested in how the simplicity of imagery and words can be used to showcase complex ideas (retrieve Economix by Michael Goodwin).
